Board by Board – Our Future Developments

January 21, 2017 by Herbivorous Acres

Now to answer the question that’s on (almost) everyone’s mind. Where is my donation going? And my goodness- so many places! Herbivorous Acres can’t wait to save animals. But we have so many other developments that we are just as excited about. For a complete rundown with figures, visit the “The Plan” page on our website and click on “Future Developments”. There will be so many things for visitors to do, see, and learn about. Not only is it our goal to have the best facilities for our animals, we plan on reaching our goal of being energy-efficient and solar-powered! Just another way for us to give back to the animals and the environment.

Our future developments include tiny houses and tiny cabins that will be available for weekend rental, vegan dinners on the farm prepared by The Herbivorous Butcher, vegan cooking classes, a CSA, workaway options, a beautiful Humane Education center, eco-friendly and locally-made gifts sold at our on-site gift shop, yoga classes with the animals, programs for schools, and services for adults and children with disabilities!

When you’re thinking about donating or coming for a visit, we hope that everyone will find something to connect with! Please share our mission with people because the more people support us, the more animals can be saved and live in peace, harmony, and happiness.

Our Humble Beginnings

January 20, 2017 by Herbivorous Acres

humble beginnings

It all began on July 4th 2016. It was just a couple of goofballs enjoying each other’s company. Marie started talking about her dream of having a farm sanctuary some day but it wouldn’t be for many years down the road. Not soon after that, Aubry started talking about the same dream. The lightbulb turned on! And of course Marie started getting teary-eyed. Marie and Aubry’s dreams weren’t so far away.

We hit the ground running. It was only a few weeks later that the paperwork started getting completed and on September 1st, 2016 Herbivorous Acres was incorporated as a nonprofit in the State of MN! We started working on the IRS form 1023 in order to get our 501(c)(3) status. Many months after that, what seemed like the impossible was possible and Herbivorous Acres submitted their IRS application.

We were told to expect a wait anywhere between 3-18 months to get approved. Right before the holiday season was in full swing, a letter came in the mail. One month and 1 day after applying, Herbivorous Acres was approved by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit!

Now we hit the ground running even faster! In just about a month, Herbivorous Acres has pulled together the efforts of an amazing Board of Directors and other talented individuals to be able to announce the farm to the public and start down the road of opening to the public.

There isn’t enough thanks in the world that we can give to the people who have done nothing but support us. We have big goals. Some may say even too big. But we are ready. We are here. We are going to make a difference. Watch out world. Herbivorous Acres is here to stay and we are looking forward to changing the lives of both animals and people. We hope you will come with us on this adventure! Let’s save some animals!
